Dave Hockney
Lead Pastor
Dave is excited to be the Lead Pastor of River Club Church. His passion is to see people become disciples of Jesus in their lives. He hopes that everyone who attends River Club will have a life changing experience with Jesus.
Dave has been in the Fredericksburg area for over 20 years. He has been a pastor during his time in this area. He has also been a coach of many different sports. He also worked at Riverbend High School, where he was a paraeducator, security, and a math teacher. He enjoys sports, especially football. He enjoys reading, history, and a good dinner. He graduated for The University of The Cumberlands in 2000. He has seminary experience from Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond and Liberty University’s John W. Rawlings School of Divinity.
Dave has been married to his lovely wife, B.J. since 2001. He has three kids: Tyler, Ashley, and Alexis. He also has three grandkids.

Alyssa Skaggs
Youth Director
Alyssa Skaggs graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY with a Bachelor’s degree in Adolescent Math Education. She later earned her Master’s in Human Services Counseling with a focus in Addiction and Recovery from Liberty University.
Alyssa moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia in 2011 to begin her career as a 7th grade math teacher in Stafford. After three years, she took a sabbatical to serve on an 11-month mission trip. Upon returning, she continued teaching, this time with 8th grade students, for another five years. For the past five years, she has been teaching math at Riverbend High School.
Alyssa married her husband Jason in 2017. They currently live in Locust Grove with their two dogs, Faye and Chip. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys reading, solving puzzles, playing games, and exploring new places with Jason.
Alyssa is deeply passionate about walking alongside teenagers growing in their faith. She has been active in youth ministry since 2009, beginning with leading youth at First Baptist Church in Lockport, NY during college. After relocating to Fredericksburg, she served as the Youth Director at Freedom Assembly of God. Since 2020, she has been a part of the youth ministry team at Riverside Church. Alyssa is excited for the doors the Lord is opening and what he will continue to do in Youth Ministry through her and those serving alongside her.
Thelma Jackson
Office Administrator
Thelma joined the River Club staff in 2022 and currently serves as our Church Secretary. With a background in administration, she plays an essential role in the day-to-day operations of the church office.
Thelma is dedicated to ensuring that the office is a warm and welcoming place for both members and guests. She enjoys connecting with everyone who comes through the doors, making sure their needs are met and that they feel comfortable.
In her leisure time, Thelma enjoys participating in Christian Women’s Conferences, finding them a valuable opportunity for connection and personal growth. To unwind, Thelma often chooses to watch her favorite television shows. Above all, she treasures the moments spent with her family, considering these times especially meaningful.
Elsa Mattero
CEO Babalik Ka Rin Cleaning Service
Elsa has been keeping our church spotless for over 10 years. Once she started cleaning here, people invited her to join us for a service, and Elsa and her husband Frank have been attending River Club ever since. Elsa loves Jesus, she loves River Club Church, and she takes care of our building as if it is her own home!
